Transcendental Survival

intothewild

Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer tells the story of Chris McCandless. Chris is inspired by the transcendental lifestyle and wants to live off the land. The book follows his trip around the country and gives an insight on the lives he affected along the way. Eventually Chris follows his dream to live off the land in Alaska. He manages to survive a very long time living only by his knowledge and a few guides. He fully achieves his desires and realizes the truths he never knew before.

The book isn’t in chronological order and reveals Chris’ fate on the first page, but the author slowly reveals more details on his adventure and the adventures of others who had the same desire as Chris. Many people think his actions were crazy, but I almost fully support what he did. Today’s world is so focused on materialism and what someone has when in reality we should be living with only what is necessary. That is exactly what Chris did he eliminated what was not needed and was able to see the world with a completely different point of view. This true story really captivates the reader and lets them have a new perspective as well. I definitely would recommend this book to others.
